ODE TO THE LIBRARY: 10 UNEXPECTED REASONS YOU NEED A LIBRARY CARD
We love the library. They give you things for FREE! And the more you use the free stuff, the more funding they get – and the better the free things get! It doesn't even make sense!
The Napa County Library is truly next level. We were walking around the library this week, as we are wont to do, and we were blown blown away by their offerings. And yet, many folks in the Valley Villager circle – good, well-intentioned people – have never set foot inside this glorious place.
We aim to change that. Here is just a small sample of the things you should know about our library.
You can borrow a CA State Park pass.
As previously reported by VV.
You can borrow a HUMAN BEING.
"Each book in our Human Library is a real person who is available to answer your questions about their unique perspective and life experiences."
Is this even legal?! Library don't care!
It's a gallery for local art.
Each year, five artists are featured for two months a piece. And you could be next.
You can get free access to streaming services.
Like Hoopla and Kanopy, which feature TV shows, movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks... on and on!
You can learn Dungeons and Dragons.
We don't even play D&D, it just makes us happy that someone does.
It celebrates "banned books."
You know what isn't banned? Light snacks! That's right, they are catering this thing!
It screens movies!
On January 24th, the library is screening 1996's Star Trek: First Contact. Why this movie? Why now? Because Library does NOT play by the rules.
It has a Memory Lab.
With cool gear for digitizing your old home movies and floppy discs.
You can borrow not just books, music and movies, but THINGS.
We're talking cameras, Kindles, projectors, speakers, cookie cutters (!?), puzzles, microscopes, musical instruments (a steel drum!), and a lot more.
You can get a free subscription to the Calm meditation app.
Which I am gonna need because I'm starting to get pretty mad that you're not already at the Library!
